Smoke Alarm program
The Streator Fire Department began a smoke alarm installation program in November of 2015. Thanks to the assistance of the American Red Cross and the hard work of Streatorites, 1675 smoke alarms have been installed throughout Streator.
Several organizations have helped canvass Streator neighborhoods throughout the past year. These organizations include Streator Onized Credit Union, Hardscrabble Lions Club, and Streator High School Snowball. The SFD thanks these groups for their dedication to a safer Streator.
Vial of Life program
The Streator Fire Department began distributing Vials of Life to residents of Streator in 2016. The program is an attempt to make information gathering easier during medical emergencies. After receiving a vial, please fill out the information form and insert form into the bottle. Then place the bottle into the refrigerator. EMT's will look for the bottle in the case of a medical emergency.
Local pharmacies including Streator Drugs, Walgreens, and Kroger have helped with the effort to distribute the vials. The Streator Fire Department thanks these local businesses for their assistance.
Since the program's beginning, over 1300 vials have been distributed to Streator residents.
